January 19, 2011 - "QT"

Tonight the Junior High Students were challenged to take time out of their day (around 2-5 minutes) to read the Bible and pray to God. This is an important part of their faith development and grow and helps them "own" their faith- not just have a faith taught to them. These times each day are called "Quiet Times" and here are some suggestions given to the Junior High students to help them get started in their Quiet Times:

- Pick a time that works best for you each day – for some of you this might be before school (if you are awake enough!) or you might do it in the afternoon or just before you go to bed at night (this is probably the best time to try at first!)
- Find a quiet place
- Turn off your cell phone, computer, TV, etc.
- Get comfortable (not so comfortable that you fall asleep!)
- Figure out what scripture you want to read. If you are not sure, talk to me before you leave tonight and we’ll get you something! (Use B90X in the youth room if they want something to get them started)
- Pray– ask God to bless your time with him and speak to you through it
- If you like to write, write your thoughts… put them in a journal (we have some available) or in a notebook… what is going on in your life, what do the verses mean to you that you are reading that day?

Encourage your students to spend this time with God each day and be sure to ask them how they are doing!
